What do natural little bee do?

Natural Little Bee is a family run business that specialises in natural chemical free; balms, salves and cold pressed soaps which are hand made in the tweed valley. Every product has been tried and tested from dry to sensitive skin and these complex formulas are carefully made from chemical free oils local honey and beeswax and the packaging is either recyclable or bio-degradable.

Why did you start Natural Little Bee?

The skin products for adults are not actually our first products nor the reason that Natural Little Bee exists. It actually started thanks to the founders Daughter, who suffered with sore and irritated skin from birth. After working through all the chemical based products that did nothing for her skin we arrived at a mix of Shea, Coconut and our super ingredient Beeswax which had an almost immediate impact on her skin and if it works for babies imagine what it can do for adults.

Why make a natural chamois balm?

As a keen mountain biker and outdoor enthusiast, I have used and discarded my fair share of chamois creams. As a mountain bike racer and long distance runner I wanted to make a range for not only myself but other people too. This balm has been tried and tested in many a professional road race, triathlon, marathon race and casual ride. The feedback has been good enough for them to use instead of the leading chamois brands. Bikeradar said ‘chamois cream does a good job of protecting your backside skin on long rides’ What more could you ask for.

The Balm is long lasting because  like the rest of our products it’s not diluted. Instead, it contains raw, natural and fatty oils which ultimately last longer. Additionally, I have sourced the highest quality of essential oils that are made within the UK which have been selected to act as a natural antimicrobial (coconut), antiseptic (tea tree, bergamot) and analgesic (bergamot)... who wouldn't want a natural form of pain relief :)

Why do our skincare products contain beeswax and Honey?

Beeswax and Honey are amazing ingredients, and the ‘Big Skincare’ manufacturers know this which is why a surprising number of products that claim to be natural, actually feature ‘synthetic beeswax and honey???’, water and cheaper oils which act as a thin film on skin rather than an effective barrier. Beeswax and Honey are a humectant this means it helps your skin to absorb and retain moisture to keeps it from drying out. To boot it’s packed with natural antioxidants, has antimicrobial properties (it inhibits the growth and reproduction of microorganisms) and it is an antiseptic (It literally destroys microbes, inhibits their growth preventing and even counteracts their pathogenic action). These super properties mean it acts as an active protective barrier while allowing the skin to breathe, repair, soothe and nourish.

honey is a superfood and has amazing properties that are effective on your skin as well as in your food. The honey and beeswax in our naturallittlebee honey soaps, lip balms and hand salves are all harvested within 5 miles of us in the Scottish tweed valley.

Why are bees so important?

Our lovely next door neighbour is a bee keeper and harvests honey every year. Honey is a humectant which allows your skin to absorb and retain moisture to keeps it from drying out. It’s also packed with natural antioxidants as well as antimicrobial (this means that it inhibits the growth and reproduction of microorganisms) and antiseptic (Honey is an agent that destroys microbes, inhibits their growth preventing and even counteracts their pathogenic action). These super properties mean it acts as a protective barrier while allowing the skin to breathe, repair, soothe and nourish.

We filter locally sourced beeswax so it can be use in all the products here at Natural Little Bee.  So that's salves, chamois and baby balms. Again, beeswax, like honey also forms a microbial barrier that keeps the skin nourished. A perfectly natural way to protect your skin....!

Beeswax is an amazing product, it has many properties that help to improve and maintain skin health. It is brilliant for people with dry skin. We use honey and beeswax in our entire range of soaps balms and salves.

Our natural skincare products are available in selected shops in the Scottish borders. You can see one of our wooden display stands which are hand crafted locally.
