The ultimate rescue dry oil/serum for dry and damaged skin. This oil is lightweight, highly absorbent, non-greasy and is perfect for The changing seasons can be hard on skin. Your skin hates change, its constantly regulating its moisture content. Too much moisture and you feel sticky and you get breakouts. Too little moisture and your dry, itchy and flaky. To create a serum that works well for each extreme is hard. To create one that actively helps to fix both is an achievement worth the perseverance.
At Natural Little Bee we develop products in the right way. This means that we identify a problem that needs solving and then formulate the best product that we can to solve the problem.
What we don’t do is;
- research a market identify the ‘on trend’ ingredients and pile them into a bottle hoping that these ingredients do the selling for you.
- create a ‘new’ ingredient that suddenly and miraculously solves that issue in a chemistry lab or by changing the chemical structure of an existing ingredient in order to call it something new and claim it does all of these amazing things.
Or;
take an existing product, call it something different and then state all of the different things it suddenly does. Now you know what we don’t do here is what we do, do!

In order to develop the products the right way we take simple natural ingredients that have a proven track record and refine them thorough extensive research, testing and development until we have the very best natural ingredient that we can.use day or night.
An example of this approach in action is the honey used here.
We use honey because its outstanding for your skin we know its non-comedogenic (It does not block pores), a humectant (it helps cells stay healthy and hydrated, Its anti-microbial and anti-bacterial making it great at stopping itching, soreness, redness and highly effective at stopping secondary infections that can occur when skin is damaged.
Most honey is intensively farmed, this means that is has a high sugar content and very few of the desirable active ingredients that are important in making it work as well as possible for you. We use honey from small scale artisan beekeepers. These bees have access to a huge variety of wild flowers allowing them to eat the food that keeps them healthy, just like you or I for them to be healthy the Bees need to be able to choose what to eat to get a good balance.
This includes access to heather. Bees love heather. Heather contains a naturally occurring hydrogen peroxide (yes the same thing as bleach). The bees convert this into a compound in their honey which has been proven to help bees fight disease and increase colony health. When we use this honey we gain the benefit of this compound through a boosted level of anti-bacterial and anti-microbial activity enhancing its benefits to our skin.

We have wild Heather on our doorstep as far as the eye can see in the Tweed Valley. The heather flower has powerful anti-inflammatory properties & conditioning benefits. How you may ask? Heather contains nourishing compounds, including flavanols (Flavonoids possess a number of medicinal benefits, including anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties). Heather also contains catechins (Free radicals are unstable molecules that are made during normal cell metabolism). Phenolic acids (natural antioxidants). Phenols and triterpenes (anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal), all of which can give skin conditioning properties.! This magical wildflower is here on our doorstep & certainly something that should be appreciated. This beautiful & unassuming flower packs an absolute punch & this is why I have used wild heather & black bee heather honey in my new Black Bee dry oil.
Heather infused Black Bee honey is key in this formula & it’s something that we have enhanced due to the medicinal benefits including reduced inflammation, irritation, Its antibacterial, antimicrobial anti fungal and much more. As you may have gathered honey is one of nature’s most advanced skin remedies thanks to its remarkable anti-microbial, anti-bacterial & antiseptic properties (most hospitals still use honey dressings post-surgery where there is believed to be a high chance of infection). Honey is an amazing moisturiser & helps to keep the skin moist but not oily thanks to its natural Humectant properties. Black Bee honey is a little different, in dermatological studies its shown to be more effective at everything! Our Black bee project aims to identify what the difference is through a scientific investigation conducted in partnership with academics at Edinburgh University, watch this space.

So isn’t it cruel to take this precious resource away from the bees?
No (as long as your sensible about it). Bees are the ultimate workers, unlike us lazy humans who usually stop when we have enough of something bees make hay when the sun shines and they don’t ever stop. As a result bees will make more honey than the ever need. So as long as we only take the excess then there is no negative effect on the bees.
And the rest of the oil?
Plant based Hyaluronic acid – Why plant based. Its more bio-available (your skin can utilise it easier) & the non-plant stuff is a bit disgusting (trust me).
Frankincense, Vanilla – organic essential oils- SO NO fragrances
And a string of more unusual, ethically sourced oils that and non-comedogenic, lightweight and highly moisturising. Moringa, Baobab, Jojoba, Prickly pear & Bakuliol. These oils have all been chosen for their unique properties and benefits. To avoid this blog getting too long the detail on these oils will be saved until next time. Or simply head to the website for more information.
